Annual Country Club Plaza Lighting Ceremony

A Thanksgiving tradition in Kansas City as old as the Country Club Plaza itself has grown as the Plaza has done the same. 

Nowadays, the November 24, 2022  event is huge, with live music, giveaways, activities, and more. A local celebrity usually does the honors of flipping the switch on 80 miles worth of lights – that’s more than 200,000 bulbs! If it wasn’t officially Christmas time before that switch was flipped, it definitely feels that way afterwards. 

If you miss the lighting ceremony, you can still head to the Plaza to enjoy the display through mid-January.

Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting

This is another long-standing Kansas City tradition that is in the neighborhood of our luxury apartments in Kansas City. A performance from the Kansas City Chorale and the switch-flip by the Mayor and another guest are the main attractions, but there is plenty to do at this free event at Crown Center. 

To put in perspective the spectacle that is this tree, the 2021 tree stood 100-feet tall and featured over 48,000 LED lights, almost 900 ornaments, and 300 bells. You don’t want to miss this tree!

Holiday Light and Magic

Located on the Kansas side of the river near the Legends, Holiday Light and Magic is worth the short drive from our luxury apartments in downtown Kansas City. 

This is a new exhibit, so it doesn’t have the tradition of some of the other events. But what this display lacks in history, it makes up for in creativity and fun. More than 100 interactive light displays line the streets as you cruise through and listen to Christmas carols on the radio. 

Some light displays you can look for include snowboarding Santa, an elf construction company, Christmas in space, dinosaur reindeer, Santa playing sports, and so many more. So grab a hot chocolate from your favorite coffee shop and cruise over to Kansas City, Kansas.

Legendary Tree Lighting

Another event that’s a little bit further from your downtown Kansas City apartments  is very worth the trip to the Legends Outlets. The lighting of this beautiful 45-foot tree is accompanied by a live concert, prize giveaways, free hot chocolate, photo ops, deals and discounts, and activities like face painting, balloon animals, and photos with Santa. 

Don’t miss this beautiful tree that features 2,000 ornaments and is introduced by a synchronized light show to music. 
 

Overland Park Mayor’s Holiday Tree Lighting

Kick off the holiday season in OP with the Mayor’s Holiday Festival, a free community event that is family friendly. Kids can meet Santa Claus, live reindeer, and snow princesses.
